Big heart

In this painting we see a large red heart, filled with white faces of women and one dog's head. These faces symbolize the powerful beauty of women, which knows how to touch the heart, and the pure love of an animal, which has the same effect. Arrows have flown through the heart, causing small cracks. There is a target on the heart, but it remains unclear: are these arrows positive, coming from Cupid, or negative and meant to break the heart?

The faces within the heart give the work a double meaning. They can be the attraction that attracts the arrows, or they form a shield to protect the heart. This tension between attraction and protection adds a layered symbolism to the work, in which love and vulnerability meet.
